With IKA photobioreactors, the cultivation of phototrophic microorganisms such as microalgae or cyanobacteria under carefully controlled conditions in a closed system is easily possible. Closed systems are particularly interesting when the research area in question requires a high level of microbial purity and the risk of contamination must be minimal.
Photobioreactors create a natural environment for cultivating microorganisms for scientific purposes such as searching for active substances or in translational medicine.
Without using the light source, the device can also be used as a conventional bioreactor or as a fermenter.

The Algaemaster 10 is a photobioreactor - the perfect device for scientists to create ideal conditions for the growth of phototrophic organisms such as microalgae. Reactors of this type are of increasing interest for translational medicine; for example for drug discovery and drug development in the pharmaceutical industry.
main features
The lid and the vessel are resistant to salt water and fully autoclavable
Metal-free components in the reactor vessel for particularly sensitive organisms
Materials in contact with product: borosilicate glass, PTFE, Ultem®
Computer-aided control and regulation of lighting, temperature, stirring, pH and dosing of liquids or gases
Customizable cover with nine connection sockets
Easy data acquisition via USB drive
Main components
Double-walled 10 liter reactor vessel
With the Quickfit screw connections, an IKA thermostat can be easily connected to the vessel. When using a temperature or pH sensor, a minimum volume of 6 liters is required.
control unit
The control unit has all the functions required for the growth process of the organisms. All software settings can be easily monitored on a large run on two large displays. Nutrients and other liquids are added using two peristaltic pumps. Two gas flow meters feed the gas. The control units on the top and rear of the reactor have various interfaces such as RS232 and USB. There you can connect the device to a PC to download the data. Thanks to its slim design, the control unit can be located directly next to the reactor on the laboratory table.
LED light panels
Two light panels for individual and variable lighting are included. You can connect a total of four panels at the same time.
Lid
The customizable lid is autoclavable. It is made of Ultem® thermoplastic and tested for durability. Insert the measuring sensors such as the pH sensor or the PT-100 temperature sensor through the cover using the connection sockets (openings 6, 8 and 12 mm; 1/2 "NPT screw thread).
Stirrer
The speed range of the stirrer is between 10 and 100 U / min. the stirrer is PTFE coated. the propeller parts are adjustable in height. Thus, the stirrer is very versatile, since it can generate, depending on the type / sample different undulations.
